Charity
Each year Black Pear Joggers raise thousands of pounds towards charitable causes through club races and events, so we can give back to the communities we come from. As well as club events, members also raise a significant amount of money each year fundraising.
Current nominated charity
At the 2022 AGM members voted in St Paul's Hostel as the club's nominated charity following an incredible thought-provoking speech by CEO Jonathan Sutton. We will be donating profits from events to this fantastic Worcester-based charity.
St Paul's Hostel
St Paul's help people live through homelessness in order that they have a place where they belong. They offer several services including: resettlement, a dry house, counselling, internal and external activities, kitchen project and more.
Previous nominated charities
Our previous nominated charities are two fantastic Worcester-based charities; Worcestershire Community Trust and Perdiswell Young People’s Leisure Club.
Worcestershire Community Trust
Running 10 different projects across the City of Worcester and managing 6 community hubs including the Building Block in Warndon, working with those who need support improving health and wellbeing.
Perdiswell Young People’s Leisure Club
Providing educational and leisure time activities and facilities to further the social welfare of young people and support charitable purposes in the local community.
Wild One 2019
In 2019 we donated £2,701.28 split between New Hope and St Richard's Hospice (£1350.64 each) from the that year's Wild One race.
2018: Churchfields Farm parkrun
In 2018 following a vote by club members, the club donated £1000 of the £3000 needed to start up the Churchfields Farm parkrun.
Sadly the event was closed after parkruns were suspended during the Coronavirus pandemic. In it's time they held 41 events, recorded 1926 finishers and welcomed 241 volunteers. 102 Black Pear Joggers took part in the parkrun.
2017: Worcester Pitchcroft parkrun
In 2017 following a vote by club members, the club donated £1000 of the £3000 needed to start up the Worcester Pitchcroft parkrun. Since it launched, the weekly event has grown to an average of 250+ runners a week with 387 BPJs that have taken part (as of November 2022).
It also has helped to relieve some of the congestion at the original Worcester parkrun. Event director Sam Payne and their core team have done a fantastic job of growing the new addition to the local running community.
National Trust
Our annual Croome Capability Canter race has raised a significant amount of money that goes to the National Trust to help Croome maintain their estate.

2013: Peter Gilbert Lifetime Achievement Celebration
Club member Gavin Paskin organised a wonderful celebration of one of Black Pear Jogger’s most loved members, Peter Gilbert, with great entertainment, food and funds raised for charity. Well done Gavin.
A total of £1087 was raised and split between Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association and St. Richard’s Hospice.
2013: Stuart Wild Memorial Race
What is now the club's Wild One race started off as the inaugural Stuart Wild Memorial Race. We had The Hulk, Supergran, Batman, Wonder Woman and Big Willy Winky (don’t ask!) as fancy dress attendees.
There was a buzz before the start, lots of laughter, hugs and photos. This was a massive day for the club as it represented what we are, all inclusive, friendly and supportive.
£1900 was raised and split between Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association and St. Richards Hospice.
2016: Wilkins Way
Wilkins Way, a new multi terrain 10km race around the Worcestershire countryside, set up by BPJs Mark Dillon, Lesley and Graham Harris and took place on Sunday August 14th 2016. They organised it in commemoration and to positively remember Rebecca Wilkins, a regular Black Pear Jogger, who tragically died earlier this year.
