The Mug Run
Throughout the lighter months on Thursdays we run the scenic 4.8 mile loop with a mix of pretty lanes and canal towpaths. After finishing you can head over to the Mug House pub for well-earned refreshments.
When?
The route
Everyone sets off together and most run the same 'official' route. There's a few places you can easily get lost, so either stick with others or feel free to look at the Mug Run route (plotaroute.com). You can download the route to many GPS watches to follow.
Parking and the start
The run gets very busy, so please try and help us keep everything running smooth and safe. Please start the run at the bottom of School Bank (over the road from the church) rather than directly outside the church as there are regularly fast cars heading down Claines Lane. Also, please try and park along School Bank to allow other users of the church and pub to park closer.
Post run refreshments
After the run many runners stay after to socialise at the Mug House - a 700 year old pub with plenty of character. Please bring a change of clothes and shoes after so you don't get cold or offend the other patrons' senses! The Mug House offers a range of beverages and snacks to refuel.
Beat the bells
The primary aim is to enjoy the lovely, scenic route of course, however for many the mug run is a time trial to try and beat the bells (they ring every 15 minutes, so it depends on your pace) or your previous times.
There is a Strava segment naturally. The current BPJ record holders are:
- Rob Bowery - 28:41 (3rd August 2017)
- Sophie Booth - 33:14 (24th May 2018)
If you know of any faster times, let us know!
